Topic: Careers Associated With Food and Nutrition.
There are various career opportunities which are open to those who have formal training in foods and nutrition. They include
1. Food scientist: Nutritionist studies the basic chemical ,biochemical, physical and biophysical properties of food and their constituents. He is more involved in research and development.
2. Caterer: A nutritionist can be self employed by setting up a catering services, attending to the catering needs of the public especially during parties, dinners and on ceremonial occasions. He can also open a food canteen as a food vendor or fast food operator.
3. Food Technologist: This are the people involved in the application of the knowledge of food science to the processing of foods so as to preserve them, improve flavour, texture ,appearance and other desirable properties. He carries out research and manufactured food from basic materials.
4. Teacher: Teacher are the people who impact knowledge to reduce the rate of ignorance about science of nutrition and the effect of malnutrition of good health.
5. Food Engineering: The nutritionist devices means of techniques of post harvest storage of food and preservation of processed food to prevent deterioration and spoilage.
6. Dietician: This people can be employed to counsel patients who need special diet therapy in the hospital's. They are also known as diet consultants.
Also as a school matron, the nutritionist helps to plan the schools menu or meals for the students at large.
