Topic : SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION( STI).

            Sexually transmitted infection are referred to as infectious diseases or illnesses that are passed from one person to another through sexual intercourse or contact.

             Types of Sexually Transmitted Infection 

     There are different types of sexually transmitted infection namely;

a. Gonorrhoeal: it is caused by a bacteria and spread by having sex with an infected person.

Symptoms;  i. Painful urination ii. Itching iii. Discharge from private part (iv) Infertility i.e inability to reproduce.

Treatment: it is treated with antibiotics 

Prevention : by avoiding unsafe sexual activities 

b. Syphillis : it is caused by a bacteria. It is contacted when an infected person has sexual intercourse with an uninfected person. 

Symptoms: i. Fever ii. Ashes iii. Rashes iv. Hairless v. Sores on the sex organs vi. Insanity and death.

Prevention: avoid unprotected sexual intercourse.

Treatment: can be treated with some anti - biotics.

c. HIV/AIDS( Acquired immune deficiency syndrome).: This is caused by a virus known as HIV( Human Immunodeficiency Virus). The HIV virus attacks the immune system( protective system) if the body and weakens it. The virus is spread through blood contact and unprotected sexual intercourse. It is spread through the following ways 

i. Transfusion of infected blood 

ii. Sharing of razor blades, needles,syringes and clippers at the barbing salon.

iii. Using unsterilised instrument for operations such as circumcision, ear/nose piercing, tribal marks, tattoo marks, nail cutting, dental treatment etc. 

iv. Women passing it to her unborn foetus(baby in the womb during childbirth). 

v. Blood contact during accidents.

Signs: i. People with HIV/AIDS suffer sicknesses like fever,rash, diarrhea ii. They loose weight iii. Death is the final results in most cases. 

Prevention: i. Avoid premarital sex ii. Faithfulness to your marriage partner. iii. Use protection like condom or diaphragm iv. Cover cuts and wounds with clean cloth and water proof materials v. Avoid blood transfusion.

Treatment: i. at the moment there is no cure for HIV/AIDs. However, there are medicines that can help fight off the sickness that comes with it. ii. Antibiotics and other medicines can help people with HIV/AIDs to feel much better and to live longer.

                 Caring For People With HIV/AIDS 

  1. Provide a home where there is peace,rest,love and acceptance.
  2. Help them with household work so they can rest.
  3. Give them love and support 
  4. Help them eat nutritious foods
  5. Pay them regular visits and share their financial burden.

1. List 5 ways how HIV/AIDs can't be spread. 

2. List other 5ways to care for an HIV/AIDS patient asides the ones listed above.
