Topic: Family Needs, Goals and Standards 

a. Family Needs: These are things that are  or very important for your wel being. Every family has various needs ranging from physical ,emotional, mental and social needs. Examples includes food, shelter, clothing etc. 

b. Family Wants: They are some things a family desires to posses, wants to do, wishes for or longs for e.g a family may want a car, a house or a quality education. The realization of these wishes may depend on the family's scale of preference.

c. Family Goals: These are sets objectives ,or aims which a family is working to achieve. A goal is ones desires or aim to achieve something e.g a goal can be buying a dress, a house , passing examinations .

d. Family Standards: Family standards are measures of quality of the level of value or worth which  a family places on something. A family with high standards places low value or worth on things . All these affects a family's life style.

            Types of Needs ,Goals and Standards.

Types of Needs includes;

I. Primary Needs; They are basic needs that are very easy essential e.g food, clothing, shelter, healthcare etc. 

II. Secondary Needs: They are not as important as the primary needs e.g flashy cars ,picnics, assorted clothes etc. 

Types of Family Goals includes;

I. Long-term Goals: These are goals that takes a long time to achieve e.g building a house, buying a car etc.

II. Intermediate or Short-term Goals: these goals takes less time or period to achieve e.g providing food for the family, attending social activities etc.

III. Immediate or Instrumental Goals: These are goals that are simple and immediate which a fily achieves within a very short time e.g going to the market , preparing for school etc 

Types of Family Standards includes;

i. Good education 

ii. Good cultural background 

iii. Proper moral upbringing  of children 

iv. Proper management of scarce commodity 

v. Absolute cleanliness of the  home and the environment.  

     Relationships Among Family Needs, Goals and Standards.

I. Needs, goals and standards have to do with achieving an objective e.g food ,care education.

II. Needs ,goals and standards are means through which we achieve what we desire.

III. They encourage one to work hard. 

     Uses of Family Needs, Goals and Standards 

I. They are used for survival 

II. They are used for meeting stated expectations 

III. They are used for attaining self-actualisation
